Hello Rick and all: I am finding GATES hose purchased from CARQUEST to
exhibit the cracking symptoms after as little as one year. The hose is also
very brittle, bending the year old old hose will result in cracking similar to
breaking a tree branch.

  Subject: [fastvair] Nice day

Took a break from the race car prep yesterday afternoon and took advantage of the fine weather to get the 67 vert out of hibernation.
For the first time I had a problem with the car. The electric fuel pump would not run. I began tracing down the power wires, ground and relay. All were in working order. Next I got under the car, removed the pump and tested it with another battery in my shop. Worked as advertised. Hooked it all back up and no problems. Not sure what it's actually problem was but it is working fine. I drove around for awhile plus did a freeway blast at 70-80 per after the lifters quieted down. The car runs so well I did not want to quit. As I've said before, its a real leaker but I'm reluctant to get in to it because it runs nice. I love that car! Plus the race car is always hogging the main spot in my shop. In fact, its the only spot!

One thing I did notice is how the outer covering of the new when installed rubber fuel lines have become cracked like old tires. I used hose purchased from local NAPA and listed as okay for fuel. There are no leaks as yet. They have been on the car for three or four years and the car is always garaged. I will replace with better hose like what I use on the race car. The hose is likey of the "off shore" quality.
