This topic reminds me when, some 4 years ago, was traveling with 2 friends, on my 67 cpe. on a late afternoon, and after a stop for dinner, got a very slow cranking and engine didn't start with the battery. After push starting, checked charging voltage and there were less than 12 volts. All auto parts stores were closed and I was at about 1.5 hours from home. With night approaching quickly, I bought a new and well charged battery, installed it and continue my trip back home, trying to use lights at a minimum possible, to save battery charge. Next morning, when preparing to take off the alternator (internally regulated) found that one of the 2 wires on the twin connector was broken at the terminal. Thought on hammering my head but, it wouldn't not fix the problem which, could be easily fixed on the road if I would pay attention to simplest things.Ed: Did you checked these wires ?
