Hi Bob,

Welcome aboard.  As long as the piston isn't badly damaged, you should be able to just fix the head and put it back together.  A couple notes:

 - If you get this head repaired, I would go to a Corvair shop and get them all done.
 - Once you get the top shroud off, you'll probably find some blockage in the head fins that was the actual cause.  You should clean out any debris, and deflash both heads - you can do a reasonable job on the other side without removing the head.
