Clark, I've proved you wrong on many horizontally opposed aircraft
piston engines and corvairs. Does it seal all the ring in a cylinder?
No, but you will see an increase if the rings are an issue. Mark Durham

Many people say squirt some oil in the spark plug hole to get a better
compression reading.  This may work on an inline 6 where the piston top is
horizontal and the oil will run around the top ring equally.  My theory is a
corvair piston is laying on its side and the oil will just lay in the bottom
of the cylinder not doing anything.  Of course you could fill the cylinder
up to the top causing hydraulic lock and bent rods!  GRIN.
