Jeff,

I observed this problem in the 60s when working at Ken Dixon Chevrolet Buick
in Waldorf Maryland.
The problem was fuel starvation after driving at highway speeds. If your
Corvair still has the plastic fuel strainer on the fuel pickup in the tank
it may be collapsing and stopping the fuel flow. The simple solution is to
remove the fuel cap, disconnect the fuel pick up line somewhere convenient
before any filters or the pump, use your air compressor and pressurize the
fuel line leading to the tank. This will blow off the filter and you will be
good to go.

Good luck.
