I don't care if I have stock wheels or aftermarket wheels and matching lug
nuts, longer studs, whatever, I still tighten to where I can remove them. 

And yes, living in the east, I lube ALL lug studs on all cars I work on.
You westerners with your dry lugs.... I do plan on removing the wheels at a
later date.

Yes -- I tighten them as tight as I can while still being able to 
loosen them again with the stock jack handle.  I have never used a 
torque wrench on them and couldn't even guess as to the torque 
spec.  I have never had 'em come loose, and never been unable to change a
flat.

This assumes stock steel wheels with stock lug nuts.
