<VV> It Runs!! for a while...

It runs a drives smooth at speed and at idle. Accelerates without
hesitation, until the engine warms ups. Usually a few miles down the
road. then it starts to hesitate on acceleration and stumble a bit.
Idle does feel a bit rougher.
My timing light took a dirt nap, so I'll need to get another. I have not
checked the distributor plate and it's probably harder to spot without a
timing light.

I'll check Mayy Nall's suggestion about choke position when warm to
verify or eliminate that.
I assume that I should see identical throttle plate positions when the
car is hot. Is that even doable?

As for Mike Kovacs and Dennis Pleau's suggestion, how do you check a
coil, or is it just easier to replace it. seems replacement is easiest
to me. ;op

I've replaced the tank sock so I'm good t here. I've had that problem
before. ;op

Is the cold idle keeping the engine RPM high enough to make the engine appear to 'smooth' out? Does your reference to 'nowhere near as smooth' mean engine vibration both at idle and running down the road? Corvairs are known for having wear problems with the distributor advance plate. Have you checked the timing with a timing light? If the timing mark is anything less than steady the idle may be affected.

Or any of these conditions standing still at an idle? Is it most noticeable in first gear or third / fourth ... if there is a difference? Does it feel like it is running out of gas? Are you seeing black smoke [flooding] from the tailpipe?
