The lights ground at the engine. There is power to the bulb and it grounds at the sender on the engine. For example the oil pressure light is supposed to come on when you turn the ignition switch on as the oil pressure switch is grounded with no pressure on it. Then as you start the engine the contact opens up and the light goes out. Clark Hartzel
