Joel, 
You will note that is really only true with the 1960-63 Rochester carbs.  
>From 1964 on, the venting was improved to the point that this now doesn't  
happen.

with Corvairs  is that when you run them on a hot day and get them really 
warm, the gas boils  out of the carbs and floods the engine when you shut it  
off.
