<VV> steering wheel play

 1969 Fitch Sprint. The steering wheel has about 2-3 inches of what feels like 
play in the steering box. Observation shows the shaft turns a bit, but the arm 
does not . Everything else in the front end steering system is like new, no play 
there.

The adjuster in the box was tightened a bit when I replaced the tie rods and is 
not very deep into the box. The front bearing nut could only be tightened about 
20 degrees. 


 I can replace the box, but is there anything else I could do? I replaced the 
very fast steering arms with standard ones to reduce the strain on my old arms.
