Didn't someone post a while back that they had a bad tach that was grounding the ignition?  Maybe a few month ago (or years) I lose track of time.  The black wire from the Pertronix is handling the ground switching when the bad ground is disconnected.

The negative wire on the coil does not go directly to ground but to the
points in the distributor.  The points periodically supply the ground as
the distributor rotates.  The negative also supplies the tach signal (the
negative side of the coil pulses as the points ground and unground the
connection).  If your tach wire is grounded somewhere, it will act as a
kill switch.
