 The best is no fuse. The HRPT has earned its name. Alas, any fuse or breaker adds resistance to things by their very design, and the voltage drop will result is somewhat dimmer headlights, slower wipers and heater motor, etc. 

But if you think you HAVE to have one...

Use a fuse, designed for automotive use, and I wouldn't use anything less than 60 amps. The higher the rating, the less resistance.

Since I posted my problem with electrics, I'm convinced it is the plastic
thingy. I've been told to replace it with a fuse. But the amperage keeps
going down. It started at 50, then 40 and the last suggestion was 30. So
what is best?
