Bill,
Thanks for the lead.  Notice that the ad states that Olds used "fluid"  
(Olds Turbo Rocket Fluid) to inject into the air/fuel stream.  We now call  it 
"water injection".  Olds used it so they could keep the high  compression 
ratio of the V-8 (10.25:1) and still use  turbocharging.  This gave the engine 
good acceleration even before  boost was reached.  Unfortunately, it 
required a very sophisticated  non-electronic water injection system that was 
beyond the capability of the  general public as well as many of the dealer 
mechanics to keep running  properly.  Corvair went to the other extreme of simply 
reducing the  compression ratio and avoiding the complexity of water 
injection.for their  turbocharged engines.  That's why the Corvair turbo engines 
were  produced for 5 years compared to only 2 years for the Olds version.
