<VV> HELP: Apparent Electrical Issue

Thanks for all the good responses. It appears it was the big red wire
connection in the engine compartment. A PO had pulled the contacts for the
big red wire out of the two connector bodies. I cut off the electrical
tape, throroughly cleaned the contacts, plugged them together with heat
shrink over the joing, and wrapped tape over that. So far, so good.
