I also had luck using the plastic (nylon) tool that cyclists use to
install bike tires without damaging the tubes. It isn't harder than paint and is
still stiff enough to "worry" the emblem off if used carefully.

don't scratch it. Gently work it up from both sides, so not to kink it to
one side and bread off one of the pegs. Once removed, you can remove the
barrel clips by squeezing the two side and lifting it out. You should see
a
split in the barrel nut, and assuming that the split is at 12 o'clock,
then
squeeze at 3 & 9 o'clock. Most times the barrel clips are broken in the
process, but they are still available from most old car vendors.
