<VV> Clutch Cable issues

Backup clutch cables store really nicely under the door sill plates. Very
hard to accidentally bend them when they're stored there.

Joel

Hi Ray,

There are a couple of fixtures you can make that are shown in the CORSA
Technical Guide. I have made up a .pdf for you with these articles and
diagrams. However you can purchase a 1" "C" clamp at a hardware store, file
a groove into the fixed paw at the bottom of the clamp. That way when you
clamp down onto the broken cable it will grip the cable and not let it roll
off. Then simply hook the clamp up over the clutch pedal fork and this will
get you home easily. When I was 17-18yrsold and driving my original Corsa to
high school back in 1972 this is what I carried with me all the time after I
broke the first cable. After I broke the second cable a year or so later I
made up a fixture similar to the 2 shown in the CORSA Guide. However, in my
case I simply bought a miniature turnbuckle with 1/8 dia shank eye bolts,
brazed a axle through one eyebolt to ride in the fork and wrapped the cable
through the other eye bolt using a 1/8" cable clamp to hold it on. I
adjusted the length with the turnbuckle and never had to change the cable
again.

If you travel away from home very far I do recommend that you buy a Clarks 2
piece cable and put it in your trunk. You can change these along the road
but taking off the tunnel and getting the ball through the bottom pulley
bracket is a pain.

Speaking of broken clutch cables...

For the common breakage near the ball at the pedal end I know it is oft
recommended that Corvair owners carry a clamp type cable repair kit in the
glove box to get you home if yours breaks. Can anyone recommend a
particular source and/or brand for such an item? I went looking locally
last week and didn't have much luck. I have found many different type kits,
but none so far that seem to be right for this job.
