Colonel, If you want to do it correctly, you know the answer. If you want to risk the outcome, you know the answer. If you have the engine already out, removing the transaxle is pretty darn quick and easy to remove and then split apart. I like doing things properly. I like driving my Corvairs long distance. My vote is do it correctly. Tell us your decision.
