I took a chance. Used JB weld and replaced the small-less than half of my pinky's nail. Snanded it all down and replaced the seal and split ring. We'll see.

Agreed, if the engine is already out, you can remove the final drive with the tranny in place, and that ain't all that hard. And yes, use the steel one Clark's sells, much harder to break. Don't forget the heavy split washer, so you don't trash the seal.

Colonel, If you want to do it correctly, you know the answer. If you want to risk the outcome, you know the answer. If you have the engine already out, removing the transaxle is pretty darn quick and easy to remove and then split apart. I like doing things properly. I like driving my Corvairs long distance. My vote is do it correctly. Bad news--closer inspection as I was putting on throw out bearing showed a crack in the snout. It looks like a piece could fall out if I touched it, Crack extends 7/16 of an inch from end of snout. Any fixes? JB weld? Or am I faced with dropping the trans axle and having a new snout installed? I'm afraid o f the answers!>____________________________________________________________>Do THIS before eating carbs (every time)>1 EASY tip to increase fat-burning, lower blood sugar & decrease fat storage>http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/52a1027adaba627a77c2st02vuc> _______________________________________________>This message was sent by the VirtualVairs mailing list, all copyrights are the property>of the writer, please attribute properly.
