Thanks to all of you regarding my steering question, I will investigate further.I will start by increasing air pressure in front tires, then inspect frame rail back to firewall.Jim Cuneo65 corsa 140 turboHealdsburg, CA

Subject: Re: <VV> Steering woes

I second Bryan's thoughts. I have not seen a weak frame rail unless
there was substantial missing metal.

Make sure the bolts are really holding the box tight to the rail. If the
bolt is to long, the nut maybe stopping at the end of the threads
instead of against washers.

Wait, cancel that, you say the frame rail is moving? Look for missing
metal between the firewall area and the steering box mounting area.
Maybe hidden by the fuel tank.

I don't recall hearing of people having to reinforce it there, the only time I've seen problems is with rust or damage. Did you remove the box to check the section? If not, I would take the box out and check all the fasteners and the metal and welds in the area under and around the steering box.

>> Hi guys, I have a 65 corsa with quick steering box and Ieco quick steering arms.Other than the effort at low speed, the steering is quick enough.Suspension components ie: ball joints, bushings, pitman etc. have roughly 15k mile on them and are tight.Problem is, steering feels very numb on center and is slow to react initially. Once in a turn things feel ok. I got under car and observed while wife turned wheel and noticed that the box and frame member where attached move noticeably before any motion is transfered to the linkage.I cannot see any cracks or problems with frame. Is this twisting motion normal? Is there a way to stiffen the frame member? Thanks for any help,Jim Cuneo Sonoma County CA
