Joe, Thanks for commenting. I too have hd springs cut one coil. Tomorrow I will try the higher pressures recommended and see if the steering feel improves, it is dark when I get home from work.Happy New Year,Jim

Hi James,

I have been following this email thread with some interest because tire pressure is so critical to Corvair handling. I was surprised when I read that you inflate your from tires to 12 psi. But considering what you wrote below, I am very curious about the other suspension settings on your car. On my early four door I have heavy duty springs cut one coil, KYB shocks, and quick steering arms. I have 185 70 tires on stock rims with the pressure at 22 and 34. I frequently drive on rutted and pot holed clay-pack roads in the mountains (my daughter and her husband live way off the beaten track) and with my set up the ride is still very comfortable.

I can't help but wondering if your car might have other issues too.

Regards,

Joe White

Ron,In response to Bryan and you.
At 15psi the ride is quite harsh on the country roads we have here in sonoma
county, 12 is the minimum I run. If it were all nice and smooth I 'd be using
more. Also, seems to bump steer less. Since the tires i'm using are much larger
than stock, does it not make sense to use less pressure? The tires have a much
higher load rating than the origs.Even with 12 psi there is not much of a
noticeable bulge in the sidewall. The original size looks underinflated at 12
psi.I will try increasing pressure and see if this relieves some of the effort
required to turn steering.Thank you,Jim
