And here is a General Motors Worldwide Standard for backlights. Some, not
all, automotive literature also uses the word in addition to the glass
industry.

How about this I just found on the internet, a NAGS history page:

http://www.glasslinks.com/trivia/lofmanual59.htm

When I was in the collision repair shop, I ordered backlights from my glass
warehouse. If I said back window, they would ask which side...

This "different terms for the same part" drives some on VV up the wall.
This is why Mark Corbin is no longer on VV. He and others (Smitty and Ken
for sure) got into a heated debate on what a "sedan" and "coupe" meant.
Name calling, time outs and moderation resulted.

Fun fun fun

John,
Sorry - I do not have a reference.

Andy and Frank,

I am 73 and car crazy and I have never seen this term used in referring
to a rear window except on VV lately. I have a pretty good collection
of auto books, manuals, magazines and catalogs and I cannot find this
term used anywhere. It may be some slang term used by some people but
it is not proper that I can find. None of my GM parts Catalogs use it.
I am looking at a Fisher Body Service Manual and it calls the rear
window a " BACK WINDOW". If you can tell me where I can see this term
in print I would like to see it.

Thanks
John
