The most popular two stage two barrel out there is the Holley/Weber 5200. The largest Weber progressive two barrel is the 32/36D series, available with electric chokes and left/right hand linkage versions!

The Rochester you're talking about was used on the carb'd 2.8L Chevy V6. An interesting carb, but the mods you'd need to eliminate the computer controlled A/F adjust, etc., may be fairly challenging, but I also speak from near zero experience on this carb, so...

Fuel injection is the way to go but if you are looking at carbs a more
sophisticated one would be the 1/2 Quadrajet. I can't remember what it's
called. They made them 2 ways. One was the front two small barrels and one was
split the other way. It had a small first and a vacuum operated huge 2nd. I've
only seen one made this way and it was in a pile of carbs at a scrap yard. Does
anyone know what they came on?
I had or may still have a center mount 2 barrel manifold for non-140 engines
that came with a 2CG on it. I don't know the history of it.

True, even old efi systems can work much better than carbs, particularly in a
system where the carbs are old and were not originally intended for performance.
These carbs are not much more sophisticated than our HVs, two throats instead of
one. These carbs were pretty common on quite a few GM vehicles, everything from
Vegas to Firebirds - just about anything that had a small engine requiring
minimal carburation. Several sites offer information about tuning the 2CGs for
racing, which is not the same as for the street. The ubiquitous nature of these
carbs got me wondering if anyone had played with them.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread about anitsneeze.
