<VV> Cam Thrust Washer

I just put a new gear on an NOS 304 cam.  The new gear has a slightly different shape than the old GM one.  As a resutl I though the cam wasn't fully on the gear so I gave it a little more.  Now the thrust washer doesn't spin on the cam but rotates with it.  Have I screwed up big time?  Will it be Ok to run it like that.  Any suggestions?
