Here's the link to the Corvair/Harley

He's got another video with details about the mechanicals.

You can run the Corvair engine without any shrouds for quite a while at idle.

There are several motorcycles running unshrouded Corvair flat six all over the place with no problems. Check our YouTube for the kick start Harley - its Vairy cool!

Don't try pushing the UltraVan or even a car aound without the fan/shroud but just idling is low stress no problem.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't very clear. I was thinking about running it for a
minute or two with no fan and no turkey roaster and no lower shrouds.

You can run it forever with the lower shrouds off. I wouldn't run it for
very long without the top shroud on. The turkey roaster is the most
important shroud. Without that, you might as well not have the fan turning.

Hi,
I know from experience that running a Corvair motor with a broken belt cause
t to overheat within minutes.

What about running an engine in the car with bottom and top shrouds removed?
know it would eventually overheat but I was wondering if anybody has done
hat and what sort of time frame could I reasonably expect to run it safely.
My reason - I'm trying to track down a small oil leak and with the fan
lowing, oil goes everywhere so I was thinking about running the motor riefly
with top and bottom shrouds off.

Thanks,
Bob
