180 out seems most likely but only if you've had the distributor out since it last ran. Pull the plug out of #1 and make sure it just finished the compression stroke when the rotor lines up with the #1 post in the distributor.

Subject: <VV> Starting engine been idle 6 years

Hi - I am trying to start my LM 110 HP engine that last ran in 2006 due to a long resto projects. Only thing apart on the engine was the rocker arms to replace the push rod tubes seals.  I set the valve adjustment with directions from local corvair guys and the shop manual. Compress is fine.

I have spark and we are using an electric fuel pump and plastic gas can so now, so it's gettign fuel ok. New Plugs, wires, cap.

It cranks but does not seen to want to catch. How do I check to see if I have the distributor clocked correctly, couldn't it be off 180 degrees? I have set the dist at the # 1 clyinder with the timing marks lined up.

I see gas squart into the carb, at least on one, so I think we're getting fuel ok....any ideas to check? The instrument cluster is not installed but I don;'t believe this matters.

Thanks for your ideas!
