<VV> Big red idiot light

Turbos -- at least late model turbos -- have an idiot light *and* a loud
buzzer to alert you to overheating. I suppose, like everything else
automotive, that the overtemp switch or wiring can fail. But if everything
is working as designed, you have a gauge, a red idiot light and a buzzer
all warning you of overheating. Hard to ignore!

I put 100k miles on my '66 (second owner, bought it in '68) as a daily
driver including a couple of coast-to-coast trips. It's had its share of
problems including a worn out clutch disk, scored cylinder, burnt exhaust
valve, dropped valve seat and pulled stud. All of these I ascribe to the
original owner -- he ran it hard and traded it in after a year.
