<VV> strange?

The motor I am building now has 2 rods that were copper plated from skirt  
area to crank pin area , including the rod cap. I wonder why?  must have  
been at factory? they came from a badly damaged  (due to impact wrench  abuse) 
RX block , 65 FC.   Of course I have pictures.
