> A). The drive which is in the transaxle. I have not experienced a problem There in my Corvair, but my '63 Lemans had a stripped vinyl gear in the output of its transaxle. This led to a bouncy and inaccurate speedo which culminated in a total failure. Replacement of the gear is the only repair. (Not done yet)

This requires further inspection as it can be the cable failing at the ends, the cable fraying along its length or the cable casing developing rough spots internally which snag the cable. This can get worse as the cable gets frayed and exacerbates the damage to the interior of the casing.

The lead up to the failure had incorrect readings and bouncing needle. Had I recognized it and done some preventive maintenance I might have delayed the purchase. It could have used some grease and minor adjustments of the worn gears to keep it alive. But that is hindsight.

> Merry Christmas to all of my Corvair friends and compatriots. I hope that we all have a great Christmas and an excellent holiday season. I look forward to seeing many of you again when the car season starts again.
> And just one more thing. As I read through and see more notice of club members passing, I remember to say thank-you and show appreciation of the efforts, knowledge and friendship that our fellow members offer. It is more important for us to express our appreciation to them while they are still around to hear that.
