<It may have been cancelled, but I know that my 1963 Spyder had them, and that it
was an early build car, since it was sold the week of introduction of the 1963,
by Balise Chevrolet in Springfield MA. Is it possible that it started life as a
1962 on the assembly line, and wasn't completed when they shut down for the
change over for the 1963 model year? What was the date of the start up of
production of the 1963 model year cars?>
As my note said, the cancellation of the rebound straps was effectuated 8-10-62, which was the Friday of the second week of August 1962. I don't know when model year 1963 production began however it may have been as early as some time in July. Look at the Body Identification Tag attached to the structure in the engine compartment of your car. Immediately beneath where it says "CHEVROLET" on the upper left corner there should be 2 numeral followed by a letter. The numerals designate the month of assembly (e.g. 07=July) and the letter corresponds to the week in that month (e.g. D=4th week). If your Spyder was manufactured the second week of August 1962 or earlier, then it was assembled prior to the cancellation of the rebound straps on R.P.O. 696. Please let us know what you find out.
