No, to work reliably, they need to be snug in the hole.  After all, the 
switch needs a good ground to the car body.  You might try adding a flat 
washer to take up a little slack.

Hi, My dome light stayed on so I changed out the door plunger switches with
Clark's C2191. They thread okay into the old spot but the thread ends near
the nut unlike the originals that seem to have one more thread turn on
them. The new ones sit kind of loose. Is this the way they are supposed to
be? This is on a 1964 Coupe.
