Well, I wouldn't go that far. They ran rough as a cob. Being the largest 4 banger made for a car since WWII, and no balance shaft, well, you get the idea.

AFIK the slant-Fours were good motors, except the timing chains got
noisy early.
They would slap and clatter and sound terrible at idle.
