Another interesting account of the special Corvair assembly line set up
in 1969 can be found in William DeLorean's book "On a Clear Day You Can
See General Motors".

DeLorean comes across simultaneously as a sh*thead and a realist in his
account of late 60s/early 70s GM management. While Delorean seems too
willing to throw certain things under the bus that he believes were
foisted on him -- good examples being the Corvair and the Vega -- it's
interesting reading.

The background info of DeLorean pulling the final plug on the Corvair is
an important part of the overall Corvair story. You can get cheap used
copies on www.abebooks.com.
