If the custom pistons are made correctly then no other machine work should need done. That is as long as you stick with the stock rods. That would make the price about $200 or so more than the VW set-up. The full fin design is probably worth that much extra because the VW cylinders sometimes split down the side. They look as though they may cool a little better too.
