True, JR. The real problem would be if the same resistance or interference  
was keeping them from opening as they needed to do, based on load. That 
could  cause overheating issues.

YES, but  he said that they snapped closed after a period of time.  That 
would  not indicate a failed thermostat - but one that is trying it's 
darndest to  close the door.  They were caught on something - probably 
rubbing on  the sides -edges of the heater box and eventually closed LATER.
