<VV> Corvair engine codes (1965 RV = PG/AIR?)

It was an available engine when the original gave up?  A youngster was going 
to drive it and the parents didn't want a "hot" engine in it?  Some other 
reason?

You've got to remember that these cars have been around for ~50 years and 
many will certainly have an unknown history.
