I got some "bad" gas last week from a local Chevron station (which I didn't know was going out of business). I pumped 5 gallons of premium into a can for my mower and decided just to top off the truck with a few gallons to round it up to $20. The station is only a couple of blocks from home so I didn't notice anything at first. But, the lawn mower wouldn't start when the gas was added. I thought I had a mower problem until I drove the truck again and the check engine light came on along with a terrible miss. It coded out as "multiple random misfires", meaning bad gas this time. It must have been really bad at only about 10% the gas in the tank. I tried additives from Techron and Sta-Bil that I keep in stock to no avail. While I was at a LAPS Saturday for anti-freeze for the wife's PT, I asked the counterman/boy (an ex-algebra student of mine) for the latest and greatest thing for water in the gas and he sold me a small red bottle of HEET (3-4 oz?). The engine smoothed out before I got home and the light didn't return after I cleared the code. It could be a fluke, but I am sold on it for now.
