That's fine and logical for when the valve is open but how does it flow when
closed? Then it will flow in one and out the other one next to it.

The arrows in the shop manual show the oil going out the bottom and in the
top. That makes sense from the perspective of basic heat exchangers and air
flow direction.

Subject: Oil adaptor question

Hi,

I'm in the process of installing an external oil cooler in the 3.1 engine in
my UltraVan. That includes installing an oil thermostat which lets oil flow
to the cooler once it reaches temperature. On the "engine side" of the oil
thermostat it has two connectors, "motor in" and "motor out". These go down
to the oil cooler adaptor plate that I got from Clarks.

What I need to know is which of the 2 vertical connections on the block is
"oil in" and which is "oil out".

Thanks,

Bob
