Does this happen only after the car is well warmed up.  Coils can fail or 
begin to fail when they get hot.  If you have a known good coil at hand, try 
swapping them out to see if that solves the problem.  You can buy a new one, 
but there is no guarantee it will not be defective right off the shelf.

This could also be a fuel delivery problem.  Pump, too small jets in carbs, 
carb filter "stones" not changed out in years, other STUFF.

How long since the points were replaced - along with the condenser.  Oh, the 
condenser on the coil could also be a potential issue.
