<VV> Flywheel Glaze Removal

I am interested in learning about removing the glaze on a flywheel.  I have asked the question of well respected car guys and have received some differing opinions about how to do the job.  It might very well be that there are multiple correct answers.  One opinion is to use a dual action sander.  Another is to lightly use a disc sander.  Another is to take it to a machine shop and have it resurfaced.  

If sandpaper is used...what grit?
I have not done this before and am seeking the advice from others with experience doing this.
