FWIW my local Chevy dealer had a "Corvair specialist" who changed my clutch on a '68 by hoisting the car shoulder high, unbolted the transaxle from the engine, pulled the bell housing down so the transaxle was hanging by the front mounts and the engine was hanging by the rear mount (steadied by a jack at the bellhousing).  The rear mount failed a month or so later on the way to Ohio.  He also replaced a rear wheel bearing that then seized less than a thousand miles later.
After that I bought the manuals, some more tools and learned how to do my own work.
Maybe that "specialist" worked on your car.
