I have seen this with a worn housing bearing giving the shaft enough travel to not open points in one position. IF opening points up a few thousandths cures it , rebuild or replace that housing. If you grab the rotor and see a lot of play , ya found it! otherwise , it may be a worn rubbing block on the points. Regards, Tim Colson
