<VV> A.I.R Engine Question

I am working with a new owner of a low miles '69 who wants his carbs de-smogged. I know how to do that part, but he also wants to know what, if anything should be done to the original A.I.R engine that still has all the equipment in place. Is it as simple as taking off the belt for the air pump, or are other modifications required? He is interested in keeping the original look if possible/practical. I will pass along advice, but he will soon be a member of our forum.
