Harry, I beg to differ, but under the Bakelite cover in the back of the solenoid are the contacts to directly put power to the starter motor. These can become corroded or worn out resulting in some problems. I usually rotate the copper bolt and cleanup the copper disk. This time I'll try another solenoid.

I'd disassemble the starter before ordering parts. A solenoid has no moving parts.
