I don't know whether this is common knowledge but, to quote from "1969 Corvair Finger Tip Facts" by Mark Ellis and Dave Newell; "the clutch cable and clutch cable cross shaft under the dash were completely reworked. The previous stationary ball & socket design was replaced by a swiveling Heim ball joint on the cable end, which attached to the modified cross shaft with a clevis pin. The vastly improved design eliminated the cable twisting which had caused the older style cable to wear and eventually break at the ball end." Unless this is to state the obvious, maybe this will help explain the problems and differences folks here report encountering with installing a clutch cable on a '69.
