In the latest issue, there is a column written by Artie Finnegan, who was a Corvair Mechanic for a Chevy dealer in the 1960s. He trashes the Corvair by stating that they all need valve jobs at 45,000 miles. That you have to drop the whole dash assembly to remove the radio. That the thermostats fail all the time and have to be adjusted for summer and winter. And when they failed, he would prop the doors open with beer cans. He complained about many other problems. If that is the level of service at the dealer he worked for, no wonder the car got a bad rap. I hope someone with more savvy than me will write them a point by point rebuttal as this is a total hit job.
