<VV> Carb idle cam mod?

My curious question is, what happens to all the fast idle cams that came
on the carburetors to be rebuilt?

I see no reason why a curve would not work in place of the steps. Only
exception is the setting of certain adjustments that rely on steps,
like: Place fast idle tang on second step of fast idle cam next to
highest step.

My last attempt has resulted in a comeback of no, because of the difficulty in cutting the steps that ride on the end of the throttle lever. So, I'm wondering what the problem might be to just have a smooth contact area in an arc (cam) that follows the low areas to replace the steps? There are many other style carbs that work that way, and I'm not able to determine why there are steps in the first place other than to compensate for the "slop" in that system. I have noticed that the cam goes straight from the top step to no step with the pump of the accelerator, if the engine warms quickly. Input as to whether it would still work okay will be appreciated. And, if anyone has a collection of cams they would like to sell, please let me know.
