I recently posted a question regarding the shims required for a 1964 4-speed
transmission mount.

With all the great manuals, books and Clarks catalogue available I was going
into information overload.

Thank you to Doug Mackintosh for his input.

I was a bit confused by literature that said the same thickness of shims
should be used on each side. What wasn't clear to me was that the 3/8th
thick washer/spacer was included in the count with the single bolt shims.
There is also a 3/16th difference between the mounting surfaces for the 2
bolt area and the single bolt area, in regard to the centre line of the
holes for the rubbery mounts on each end of the crossmember. That centre
line would be square in the car. So the packing needs to be 3/16th more on
the single bolt than the double bolt.

The original shims I have to go back in are 1/8th single shims with 3/8th
washer/spacer on one side and 5/16th double shims on the other side. The
3/16th difference equates to the mounting surface difference.

This would be a typical set-up but of course it may not apply in every case.
At least it may be a starting point for people installing a 1964 crossmember
from scratch.

After all my juggling around I now have an extra spacer (C9387) and shims
(C3953) left over. If you need any, youse can drop around and have them.
