Two things
First, Hugo makes a good point.  If you are going through the process of wiring in an electric pump, it is a good opportunity to include some anti-theft security.  These older cars are far too easy to start and drive away.
Second, however you finally wire the system, make sure the old wires and circuit you tap into are not degraded and that, if fused, the fuse and wire gauge are sized to handle the additional amp draw of the pump.  The fuse could be borderline adequate until you get out to the boondocks and then it blows.  Murphy's Law.
