The 80hp 1960 engines had the same open chambers in those heads.  They weren't all that prone to detonation because the timing wasn't much and the camshaft was very mild.  Still, GM quickly got rid of the open chamber heads after '60... until '65.  I still am not really sure why they didn't use the 95hp series heads on the turbo engines since the 95 heads work quite well, same compression, good squish area etc.
