Just a small chunk of carbon in a cylinder can make a scary racket .CAREFULLY administered water thru each carb top at a medium RPM on a warmed up motor might take care of it. Also , a top stud that moved a little too far when putting heads on will do that. three  don't have to move very far to make lots of noise. Look at each stud to see if one is a few thousandths shorter than the rest at the head nut. Regards Tim Colson C N Y C C
